Chronic Toxicity Assessment

Plant extracts are widely used in animal husbandry, healthcare, the food industry, the cosmetic industry, and many other fields. Chronic toxicity test is the third stage in the toxicological safety evaluation of plant extracts, which aims to observe the toxicological properties and target organs of animals after long-term exposure to different dose levels.

Chronic Toxicity Assessment

During the project, Lifeasible can comprehensively evaluate the chronic toxicity intensity of the tested plant extracts by recording the animal's symptoms, growth condition, food consumption, blood routine indexes, blood biochemical indexes, urinalysis, pathological and histological observations, etc. The maximum non-effective dose (MNED) can be preliminarily determined, which can provide a basis for determining the dose of chronic toxicity test and preliminarily calculating the safe level of population exposure.

  • 90 d feeding test service
  • We offer a 90 d feeding test to determine the toxic effects induced by repeated oral exposure to a test plant extract throughout 90 d, to understand the dose-response relationship, the target organ of toxicity, and the reversibility of the effects of the plant extract. The least observed adverse effect level (LOAEL) and no observed adverse effect level (NOAEL) can be derived for 90 d oral exposure. This provides a preliminary determination of the oral safety of the tested plant extracts and provides a basis for the selection of chronic toxicity test doses, LOAELs, and toxicity endpoints, and for obtaining tentative human health guideline values.

  • Accumulative toxicity test service

We use a dose-escalation accumulation factor method, using mice as indicator organisms, to calculate the accumulation toxicity dose of a plant extract based on the results of an acute oral toxicity test. We can determine the accumulation strength based on the calculated accumulation factor.

  • Chronic inhalation toxicity testing service

We use a kinetic method to determine the toxic effects induced by repeated respiratory exposure to a test plant extract over a certain period. We provide technical support for determining the concentration of plant extracts for chronic respiratory toxicity tests by identifying the target organ of detoxification, the degree of damage, and the no-effect concentration level.
